I am having trouble renewing my USAC license
We do not have the ability to help you with your USAC license.
You can get help by emailing USAC at [email protected].
My club is missing or incorrect
Your club affiliation comes from your USAC profile. Log into the USAC web site and check the club name listed.
If it is incorrect or missing, you can click on manage. If your club is not listed, they may not have yet paid there USAC club dues.
Once your club name is correct on your USAC profile we will update our records automatically.
Sometimes it takes USAC a few days before they update the information they make available to us.
I would like to buy fewer races than the complete series.
Riders will be able to purchase a minimum of four races (or the number of races remaining in the series) starting about 10 days before the first race.
Example: after week one when there are six races remaining in the series, you may purchase four, five or six races. After week five when there are only two races left, you may purchase the two remaining races.
Purchasing multiple races provides you with a set start time and bib number for all your races.
The cost will depend on the number of races you purchase.
Can I buy just one race?
If you can not make it for the entire series, individual races may be purchased online via the KHMTT.com web site.
Purchasing online allows you to pick your start time in advance.
You cap purchase a single race up until 2:00 PM on race day.
The registration webpage is smartphone friendly.
You cannot purchase a race at the park.
If the race is canceled due to weather, your purchase will be refunded. This only applies to the purchase of individual races.

I do not know which weeks I will be able to race, but I would like the same start time every week I race.
Not a problem. We have our Show and Go program where you can reserve a start time for the series, but only pay for the weeks you race.
The cost is $20 to reserve your start time, then we will charge your credit card $35 for each race you show up for (normal one day fee is $40).
Go to Show and Go Registration to get started.
I have an registration issue, what do I do?
If your USAC license shows INVALID, it is either expired or there is an issue that needs to be rectified.
If we cannot locate your USAC license, either your license number is incorrect, expired, or not on the USAC license file that USAC provides us.
You can get help by emailing USAC at [email protected]
If you purchased your USAC race license in the past few days, that information may not be on the USAC file yet and should rectify itself in a day or two.
I have never raced before, can you help me get started?
Racing in a time trial is fun and one of the safest ways to race a road bike. You can race one night in the KHMTT for only $20 and we will help you get started. We will help you every step of the way.
I need to know what to expect
Getting Ready To Race
Before Race Day
- Know the course: Familiarize yourself with the course in advance. If possible, visit the park and ride the course. On the khmtt.com website under Race Information > The Course, you’ll find a RideWithGPS link and various GPS bike computer files you may upload to your device. We highly recommend you visit the park and drive or ride the course. However, if you can’t visit the park, review the course map carefully. Remember, knowing the course is your responsibility.
- Verify your start time and category: Check the khmtt.com website to confirm your start time and category. If you need to make changes, use the “Rider Self Service” section of the khmtt.com website.
- Understand rider responsibilities: Visit the Race Information > What You Need To Know section on the khmtt.com website and review “Rider Responsibilities.” While there, scroll down to read other relevant information that may apply to you.
Race Day
Arriving At The Park
- Plan ahead: Arrive early to avoid traffic, which can be heavy in the late afternoon. This ensures you won’t miss your start time.
- Directions: Enter the park from the east side off Parker Road. At the three-way intersection, go straight onto Swim Beach Road. The Smoky Hill parking area is about a half mile ahead on your left.
- Park entry fee: If you do not already have an annual Colorado State Park’s pass, you can purchase a one-day pass or an annual pass at the park entrance kiosk. If it’s your first time at Cherry Creek State Park, you’ll also need to purchase a water basin sticker for $3.00.
Bib Placement And Warm-Up
- Bib placement: Pin your bib sideways on your left side, ensuring it’s clearly visible to the spotter and timer. Assistance and additional pins are available at the Cobras tent, located near the picnic pavilions/restrooms at the far end of the Smoky Hill parking lot. Remember, if the timer cannot see your number, you may not receive a time! If in doubt, ask someone at the Cobras tent. We have provided detailed information on how to pin your bib at Bib Placement and Pinning.
- Warming-up: Warm up either on a stationary trainer or on Swim Beach Road. When heading south (towards the park’s entrance/exit), turn around at the “No Warm-Ups” sign to avoid interfering with racers finishing at high speed. Do not warm up on the course after the race has started.
At The Start Line
- Timing: Try to arrive at the start line at least 3 minutes before your scheduled start time. Note that it takes about 5 minutes to ride from the parking area to the start line.
- Directions to start line: From the parking lot, turn right when exiting, then take the next right. The start line is about a quarter mile ahead at the start tent.
- At the start line: The start line marshal will ensure you’re lined up in the correct order and check your bib placement. The starter will verify your start time and guide you into the start tent. Do not ride into the tent until called forward by the chief referee.
- Start tent: Inside the tent, a holder and the chief referee will assist you. You may start with one foot on the ground or both feet in your pedals — let the holder know your preference. The chief referee will count you down to your start.
- Tips:
• Beginning in a lower gear may help you get started easier, as the road has a slight incline.
• At the KHMTT we start a rider every 20 seconds. There is not much time for hesitation at the start line, and the clock will not wait for you.
On The Course
- Safety:
• Ride to the right at all times. Do not cross the center lines at any time.
• Remember that the road is open to vehicles and other park users. Exercise good judgment and awareness of traffic conditions and ride accordingly.
• The course marshals are there to assist you, but they do not have authority to stop or control traffic. Be safe!
• Wearing earbuds during the race is strictly forbidden by USAC rules. - Signage and marshals: The course route/turns are marked by blue arrows on yellow background signage, and marshals will be stationed at turns and busy intersections to guide you. However, it’s your responsibility to know the course.
- West turnaround: As you approach the turnaround, you will see a large orange “Flagger Ahead” sign. The flagger will manage traffic near the 180-degree turnaround, marked by a single orange cone in the center of the road. Carefully navigate around any stopped cars and approach the turn with controlled speed to avoid crashing.
- East entrance intersection: A sheriff’s officer will be located at the top of the hill to manage traffic. However, use caution before proceeding through this intersection — do not assume it’s clear.
- Tower loop turn: This “lollipop” turn has cones creating a rider corridor to protect you from parked cars backing out. Stay within the corridor with the cones on your right.
- Final turn: After you crest the hill, there is a tight right turn that requires you to slow down to navigate it safely. Do not cross the centerline either going into or coming out of the turn!
- Finish line: As you pass the spotter (on your left), shout your bib number to ensure accurate timing. The timer’s vehicle is located about 100 feet beyond the spotter on the left side of the road.
- Crossing the finish: Be aware of other cyclists ahead of you as you cross the finish line.
After The Race
- Return to parking: Proceed to the Smoky Hill parking lot by going straight down the hill.
- Bib management:
• If you’ve signed up for multiple races, keep your bib as you will use the same one for each week.
• If you’ve signed up for a single race, return your bib to the Cobras tent. - Results: Race results will be posted to khmtt.com and usacycling.org later in the evening.
Finally
Take a moment to catch your breath and celebrate your achievement!
My club is missing or incorrect
Your club affiliation comes from your USAC profile. Log into the USAC web site and check the club name listed.
If it is incorrect or missing, you can click on manage. If your club is not listed, they may not have yet paid there USAC club dues.
The website gave me an error, what do I do?
We’re sorry for any trouble you experienced on the KHMTT.com website.
Please let us know what went wrong, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible to resolve the issue.
What Category Should I Choose?
The basic categories used by the KHMTT are:
- Men/Women Juniors (Ages 9 – 17)
- Men/Women Cat 5 (beginners)
- Men/Women Cat 4
- Men/Women Pro-1-2-3
- Men/Women Age Groups (Age 40 and up)
- Men/Women Retro Cat 4/5
- Men/Women Retro Cat Pro-1-2-3
- Men/Women Single Speed
- Men and Women EBike
- Tandems
- Hand Cycles
- Recumbent
- eBike
- Para Cycling
If you are under 19 you would normally register in a junior age group.
Anyone over 18 may race in a special equipment category such as Retro, Single Speed, Tandem, Hand Cycles, eBike, or Recumbent.
Any rider may race in a category that the rider is qualified for (CAT Pro, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5). Your USAC license will show you what category you would race in. Normally a beginner would race in CAT 5 (beginner) category.
If you are 40 or older, you have the choice of racing in a CAT category or an age group (with a combination of age group and category).
Do I have to race in the category that is on my USAC license?
No. USAC rules specify that riders may choose to enter individual time trials in their proper category or any higher category, but not a lower category. That means if you are a CAT 4 racer, you may not race in a CAT 5 (lower) category, however you may race in a higher category such as CAT 3.
Why would you do that? The KHMTT allows you as an option to race twice at a low cost. Each race should be in a separate category. So if you are 25 and a CAT 4, you could race once in that category and a second time in the P-1-2-3 category. For any age, your second race could be in the Retro, Single Speed, Tandem or Recumbent categories as well. Note: if you were to race twice in the same category you will receive time for your second race however it will not be reported to USAC.
Several new racers prefer the Retro category as the equipment is limited, as no time trial equipment is allowed including aero bars, any rims deeper than 50mm, disk wheels, aero helmets, or flat tube frames. Or in other words, just a plain road bike.
However, the other thing to note in this category is that when it comes to age and ability, it’s a free for all. If you have the correct bike and equipment, you can race in this category, regardless of age. To make this category competitive, the KHMTT separates the RETRO category into three groups, Men Retro CAT 4/5, Men Retro CAT 1-2-3, and Women Retro.
So, what category should you race in?
Most cyclists race in the category on their USAC license if under 40. Over 40 riders race in their USAC category within their age group.
If you are new to the sport, you should race in the CAT 5 category.

If your results are missing or you believe they are incorrect, please let us know so we can figure out what happened.
Where is my bib?
We mail out bibs to all registered riders about 10 days before the first race.
If you have not received your bib by race day, it could be due to one of the following reasons:
- Your address on our records is incorrect.
- Your bib was not mailed due to a USAC license issue.
- The post office delayed or lost your bib
In any case, you may come to the bib table behind the Smoky Hill parking lot and we will issue you a new bib (assuming any USAC license issues are cleared up).
I have not received my start time
We have sent you an email with your start time but it may have gotten stuck in your SPAM or JUNK folders.
If it is not there, we may not have your correct email address.
You can check the email address we have on file at Verify my Address and make any needed changes.
You can also find your start time on the KHMTT website.
I lost or forgot my bib
We have one extra bib for you, so come to the bib pickup table at the park and you can pick up another bib.
However, if you lose your new bib, you may have to be assigned a new start time as your start time is tied to your bib number.
How can I check the status of my USAC license and registration?
You can check the status of your USAC license and registration by clicking here.
I can’t afford the registration fee
You can race for free! You can volunteer to work one shift, and race during the other shift.
The KHMTT holds a safety record second to none in large part because of our many volunteers and supporters assisting racers, monitoring motor vehicles and directing traffic.
Be a vital part the time trial series by being a volunteer and you can work and race the same night!
